European Project SMURF 2 – Activity 3

Ladies and gentlemen, shareholders of the land association,

The Community Office informs you that our Land Community, which is involved in the European Project SMURF 2, which is in line with the European Union Forest Strategy, the main goals of which are sustainable forest management, economic viability and efforts to shape the future of small forest enterprises in Europe, fulfilled the approved Activity No. 3 within the said project during the days of May 5 to 8, 2026. On these days, we were visited by a working team led by Mrs. Jessica Scriva. The content of Activity No. 3 was the establishment of pre-determined ten monitoring sites in the forest stand – „CNS demonstration stands“ reserved forest area for the implementation and testing of close-to-nature approaches (CNS), as well as for training and knowledge transfer activities.

As part of our duties in the performance of tasks arising from Activity No. 3, we were obliged to:

  • Establish natural forestry practices within the demonstration stand;
  • Assist the SMURF project team with the installation of the monitoring system that is part of the CNS demonstration station and ensure its long-term maintenance as a technical part of the demonstration stand in accordance with the commitments set out in the agreement;
  • Ensure and facilitate access to the demonstration stand to allow for regular monitoring of forest variables, as agreed in advance with the forest land manager;
  • Organise dissemination and training planned in the context of SMURF Action 3.
  • Provide the final marking of the demonstration stand, including the relevant cartographic data in GIS format.

For the following period, our obligations imply:

  • Maintain a CNS demonstration stand under close-to-nature forestry practices for a period of 15 years from the date of completion of the SMURF project (31 December 2027);
  • Enable the maintenance of the monitoring system that is part of the demonstration stand during the same period;
  • Ensure the necessary permit and access to the demonstration stand for the installation and regular monitoring of the monitoring system, including the collection of forest variables, for the same period;
  • Ensure the necessary permit and access to the demonstration stand for educational and outreach purposes for the same period;
  • Allow the publication of data and results obtained from the installation of the demonstration stand,
  • Enable the integration of the demonstration stand into the European network of forest areas.

We fulfilled all our obligations responsibly. We believe that the members of the work team felt comfortable with us and were satisfied with our help and our work. In the near future, as we have been informed, we will receive the final Protocol from the monitoring of our forests, about which we will inform you.
